Guidelines for Fair Play & Resources for your Basketball Journey

The Margaret River Basketball Association follows the official rules set by Basketball Australia and Basketball WA. Our competitions are structured to ensure fair play and safety for all participants. Please refer to our By-laws for information on our rules and policies.

Player eligibility is strictly monitored, with all participants required to be registered with the association. This ensures that everyone is covered by insurance and maintains the integrity of the competition.

The Margaret River Hawks represent our region in Basketball WA competitions, providing pathways for committed players to play for Margaret River in regional and state competitions. Being part of the Hawks means committing to training, teamwork and high standards of behaviour — on and off the court — while enjoying the challenge and rewards of representative basketball.

MRBA is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for everyone in our sport, particularly children. MRBA follows Basketball Australia's National Integrity Framework, including its Child Safeguarding, Member Protection and Complaints policies (available to download in this section).

If you have a concern or wish to make a report, please contact a MRBA Committee Member, the Basketball WA's Member Protection Unit, or report confidentially via Basketball Australia's STOPline. We encourage all members and families to familiarise themselves with these policies so that we can continue to provide a safe and positive experience for everyone in our basketball community.

This section contains resources to learn and grow as a referee with MRBA. MRBA are highly supportive of providing referee opportunities at our competitions including access to training, accreditation courses, and ongoing mentoring to get you started and support you on your referee journey. As you develop there are referee development pathway opportunities with BWA and Basketball Australia.

Coaching basketball is challenging and rewarding. We appreciate everyone who volunteers to coach in the Margaret River BasketBall Association.

There are considerable resources available from BWA and Basketball Australia to develop your coaching and interpersonal skills. We would recommend coaches, whether starting out or experienced, to explore these resources to fulfil their coaching potential.

Scoring is a necessary requirement of any basketball game and relies on parents and volunteers. All parents are encouraged to learn how to score to support their teams. 

Basketball Australia’s National Scoretable Committee has developed online courses for the basic Scoretable duties to understand the basics of scoring and timing/visuals. These resources are available for parents and volunteers to learn how to score.
